A cairn marks the summit of Arthur’s Seat, located in the centre of Edinburgh. The feature is included in this section as Arthur's Seat was given honorary ”mountain“ status by the famous poet Robert Louis Stevenson . He described it as "a hill for magnitude, a mountain in virtue of its bold design”. The hill rises above the city of Edinburgh to a height of 250.5 m (822ft).

In the Valley of Glencoe, Argyll, Scotland. (22/7)
The glen is surrounded by wild and precipitous mountains, with three peaks reaching over 300metres ( 1000 ft). It is often described as one of the most spectacular and beautiful places in Scotland. The area was formed by a caldera, when an erupting volcano collapsed in upon itself about 380 million years ago. Glaciers and erosion over millions of years completed the task of forming the Glencoe we see today.
The name of Glencoe has been a byword for treachery since 6th February 1692, when Campbells, in the military and acting for the government, slew some 40 MacDonalds who were billeting them. A memorial cross has been erected on the site, and the MacDonald Clan lays a wreath there on each anniversary of the massacre.
