Now a politically incorrect form of conveyance, rickshaws were still an acceptable mode of transport in Ceylon in 1952.

The pullers actively encouraged tourists to ride in their two-wheel carts.
In Ceylon (Sri Lanka) , their use was generally confined to the city of Colombo .
The number of human-pulled rickshaws started declining in the years after this photo was taken and had disappeared from Colombo by the late 1960s.
Human-powered rickshaws have been replaced by pedal-power and motor-powered vehicles, which are still named rickshaws.
